Rap collective Wu-Tang Clan may represent New York City, but Method Man has rocked the mic in Harrisburg before. It’s a bone-chilling evening on Jan. 8. So, local R&B singer/songwriter Tim Cox, his manager and I rendezvous at Starbucks. The temperature is not much warmer inside, but the venue has a relaxed vibe: dim lights, Renaissance-influenced paintings, an oriental rug and some old-school reggae playing softly in the background. “I’m inspired to write right now,” Cox says. Although DJ Image spins full time in the Northeast (Lancaster, Philadelphia and Baltimore), he hopes to reach a national audience. His current gig will definitely help him attain that goal. My memory of Teddy

Soul sensation Teddy Pendergrass passed away yesterday after his battle with colon cancer. He was 59. In a press statement, the singer’s son, Teddy Pendergrass II, said his father died at Bryn Mawr Hospital in suburban Philadelphia. “To all his fans who loved his music, thank you,” his son said. “He will live on through his music.” Continue reading ‘My memory of Teddy’

In the photo above, local R&B singer Sincere opens up for Trey Songz and Fabolous on Dec. 20. He and former group member Siano will perform in Hummelstown on Feb. 13 — just in time for Valentine’s Day. And Harrisburg-based artists Shaashawn Dial and Michelle G. were once part of the defunct SisterArt association. Now the two will be releasing individual CDs this month.
