Tiffany “Miss Tiff” Lassiter reps to the fullest for Central Pa. hip-hop. As a female MC, she refuses to focus on sex—an easy route some females choose in this male-dominated hip-hop industry.
Instead, she uses her eclectic personality for musical inspiration. Music from Pharcyde, TLC, Erykah Badu, B.I.G., Q-Tip and Mobb Deep also motivated her to rhyme. Now she has opened up for acts from Public Enemy to Wiz Khalifa. She will also perform today and Nov. 26. (E-mail her at misstiffmusic@gmail.com for more info.)
On her new mixtape Oh Snap!, the 23-year-old femcee from Lancaster borrows productions from some the latest hits. She rides the beat (from Chris Brown and Tyga’s “Holla at Me”) well on “Get It In.” She also takes “Exhibit C” from new Roc Nation signee Jay Electronica, and she flips it into a song aptly titled “Exhibit T.” “I’m walking on the moon/I was born on this earth with a dirty ass spoon,” she spits on the track. She shifts from being conscious on “Exhibit T” to bragadocious on the playful “Like Duh.”
Hosted by DJs Vaughn Ski and Tru Dat, Oh Snap!’s production gets soulful on “Dangerous” and melodic on “Deja Vu” (local crooner Dexter Kendrick also uses this production for “In Love”). Overall, Oh Snap! reveals a budding MC with a bright future.
