Love was in the air at a Valentine’s Day R&B concert in Harrisburg.
During the Valentine’s R&B Throwback Jam II on Feb. 11, headliners Dru Hill proved why they dominated the charts in the 90s. Dru Hill sang classics such as “We’re Not Making Love No More” and cover songs including Mint Condition’s “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)” and Jodeci’s “Forever My Lady.” Speaking of Jodeci, Dru Hill’s frontman Sisqó is a protégé of Jodeci’s lead singer K-Ci. Sisqó is also known for his solo hit “Thong Song.”
The Force MDs were one of the first groups to fuse doo-wop with hip-hop. The R&B collective included an extended and memorable version of 1987’s “Love is a House” during its set. While Adina Howard performed songs such as her 1995 hit single “Freak Like Me” and “That Man,” a banger from her 2004 album called Second Coming. BET funnyman Smokey Suarez hosted the show.
Andre Robertson, CEO of Distinguished Gentlemen Entertainment, presented the show. The award-winning promotions company has been presenting concerts for more than 20 years. Robertson has worked with Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, LL Cool J, gospel great Vicki Winans and more. Robertson said he “likes to target his classy events to mature audiences.” Erick Parsons, of E-Sharp Entertainment, well-known area promoter and event manager, also worked in conjunction with Robertson. Parsons presented the first Valentine’s R&B Throwback Jam, starring 90s R&B acts Silk and H-Town, in Harrisburg in 2009. See below for more pics.
I wasn’t in attendance but seems like it was a good show. Thanks for the coverage!
