Maurice White made good use of his time while he was incarcerated in 2012.
During that period, he came up with the idea for Shoe Exhibit, a Baltimore-based business that sells displays for footwear. White was one of the vendors at the third annual Harrisburg Sneaker Expo in Harrisburg.
“I have been in business for three months now,” White said. “In 2013, I worked side jobs and saved money to invest in Shoe Exhibit. In 2014, I applied for a patent, and during the wait, I began to get prototypes made.” In November 2014, he received a U.S. patent.
White thought about getting his displays manufactured in China, but he opted to have them made in the U.S. “My product goes for $30 retail, but during sneaker conventions, I am going to reduce the price,” he explained. “I sold four boxes and gave one away for free during a raffle. I got a lot of people telling me they liked them.”
Sole Providerz has been selling kicks at the expo since its inception. The Scranton-based business continues to boast one of the biggest inventories at the expo. Sneaker Expo founder Jordan Stasyszyn sold more than 30 tables to vendors. Some of the other vendors this year include Villa, Random Casualties, Kickz Da Habbit and Urban Professionals & Associates. More than 200 people attended.
Stasyszyn said he partnered with Sneakerheads of PA when holding the 2015 expo.
