Famous boutique hits milestone, expands

Like the classic Luniz song, Round Two got five on it. The vintage boutique celebrates their five-year anniversary this month.

Sean Wotherspoon, Chris Russow and Luke Fracher launched the renowned Round Two on June 7, 2013. The store, which sells and buys vintage sneakers, clothing and accessories, first opened in Richmond, Va.

Today, Round Two runs other locations in Los Angeles and New York City. They’ll open a fourth boutique in South Beach soon. When I visited their Richmond location on June 22, I spoke with employee Richie Hinton, a Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor. He says Round Two is doing “a whole lot better” compared to the store’s inception.

“They started out with selling stuff out of storage units, Hinton explains. “By appointment-only type thing.”

What’s the Richmond store’s most sought-after kicks nowadays? Sean Wotherspoon’s Nike Air Max 1/97 SW is one of the kicks, according to Hinton. Those pair resell for around $700. The other in-demand sneaker is Pharrell Williams’ N.E.R.D. Adidas NMD Hus. These vibrant and rare kicks were released exclusively at the Z104 Shaggfest festival in Virginia Beach. (Most recently, Pharrell co-wrote and produced The Carters’ “Apeshit” song.)

“As you know, Pharrell is a Virginia Beach native,” Hinton says “The shoe retails for around $2,500 now.”

Post Malone, Playboi Carti and Lil Yachty are some of the celebrity rappers who have visited Round Two, according to another employee named Austin King. To be consistent with the vintage merchandise, Round Two plays old-school music when they air videos of the store on their famous YouTube page. On the store’s first YouTube episode, they played Digable Planet’s “Where I’m From,” a song from 1993.

To contact Round Two, visit roundtwostore.com, and send them a message on their location page. You can also hit them up on their Instagram page (roundtwova).
