Dancer-turned-singer spreads her wings

When her first I saw DaniLeigh on Revolt TV, the Dominican singer sported a handkerchief of the Dominican flag on her head. This was for her video for “All Day.” That’s also when I witnessed a charismatic girl next door who beamed throughout the video.

Fast forward a year later, DaniLeigh, 23, still has an upbeat personality. The only difference between now and then is that she gained 200,000 more Instagram followers. The singer tells The Breakfast Club radio show that she credits her Shiggy challenge video for the influx of IG followers. The viral video also caught Drake’s attention. Subsequently, a clip of DaniLeigh’s video appeared in Drizzy’s video for “In My Feelings.”

On Nov. 26, four days before the release of her album The Plan, Heineken sponsored a DaniLeigh show at the Underground Arts in Philadelphia. She gave fans a taste of older joints (“All I know”) and new material (“Family Only”). The dancer-turned-singer danced all night including right before she sang “Cruz.” The crowd went bananas during “Lil Bebe,” her first single from The Plan. She also performed her new single “Blue Chips.” Like many songs from the new album, the Mike Ewing-produced song possesses a trap sound. In the video for “Blue Chips,” DaniLeigh swims under water à la Beyonce in the “Hold Up” video.

DaniLeigh, who reps the 305 (aka Miami), inked a deal with Def Jam. She’ll return to Philly on Feb. 19 when she performs at the Trocadero.
