As Lil Wayne, 36, started to flourish as an artist, his sound became more eclectic, and his look became a mishmash of hip-hop and rockstar. This image was a rarity for a hip-hop artist back then.
On July 5 at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Wayne’s getup was all black everything (black kicks, shorts, T-shirt and tank top by the end of the show). His dreaded mane is blond, and tattoos, piercings and bling covered his body. Younger A-list artists, such as Young Thug and Lil Uzi Vert, embrace this look.
With Weezy F Baby’s crossover sound and image, it’s no surprise that he opened for punk-pop group Blink-182.
It’s been eight years since the croak-voiced rapper graced the stage in Hershey. In 2011, Wayne headlined a concert at the Giant Center. Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Keri Hilson, Lloyd and Far East Movement opened up for him.
Last night, Wayne’s set included “HYFR,” “Pop That,” “Fireman,” “The Motto,” “Uproar” and more. Young Money Entertainment signee Gudda Gudda gave a surprise performance during “Bedrock.”
On the latest episode of the Rob the Plug podcast, Luke Davis, a skateboarder and videographer, tells us that Lil Wayne was supposed to skate at GRINDlab years ago. However, Wayne, a skateboard enthusiast, was unable to skate at the now-defunct indoor skatepark in Camp Hill.
