In order to market themselves, The Bridge held three events this week.
On Dec. 17, The Bridge held a mixer in Philadelphia. Then on Dec. 19, the organization held a press conference at the former Bishop McDevitt school. Later that evening, The Bridge and Chris “Handles” Franklin held a holiday party at the Edgemont Fire Hall.
NFL offensive tackle and Harrisburg native Garry Gilliam founded The Bridge and is the organization’s CEO. The Bridge aims to acquire 5 to 30 acres in Harrisburg for sustainable eco-village campuses that will produce fresh food, clean water and renewable energy. The organization plans to break ground in 2020.
During the press conference, Gilliam said the philanthropy by a late rapper helped to fuel his vision for The Bridge.
“Nipsey Hussle passed away March 31st. And I caught wind of his story and what he was doing. It really inspired me …,” Gilliam explained.
The Bridge also consists of Jordan Hill, chief community officer; Corey Dupree, chief operations officer; and Dezwaan Dubois, chief information officer. Both Gilliam and Hill played football for Penn State and the Seattle Seahawks.
