On the heels of Drake’s surprise release of his If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late mixtape, PARTYNEXTDOOR performed at Philly’s Theatre of Living Arts on March 3.
PND, a singer/producer on Drizzy’s OVO Sound label, came onstage at 10:32 pm. He rocked a Chicago White Sox jersey with Jordan’s No. 45. Stage smoke permeated the venue during “Let’s Get Married,” and girls screamed during “Sex on the Beach.” He told the crowd “Thirsty” is his favorite from PARTYNEXTDOOR TWO. His ex was his muse for “Fwu.” He showed impressive vocals during “Girl from Oakland.
PND was born in 1993 in Mississauga, a section in the western part of Toronto, Canada. Coincidentally, 1993 was the last time I visited Toronto. And like me, PND’s family has Jamaican roots.
The singer is private. His face appears on both covers of his first two EPs (PARTYNEXTDOOR and PARTYNEXTDOOR TWO). But on both covers, he doesn’t look straight into the camera, and his face is blurred. Like former OVO affiliate The Weeknd, PND doesn’t do much press. Therefore, vigoronline.com couldn’t take photos of PND during his performance.
Rapper/producer Amir Obe opened up for PND. Before Obe appeared onstage, the DJ spun bangers such as Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen” and gems from Drake’s If You’re Reading This.
