Singer swims in success

A whopping two million people follow Teddy Swims on Instagram.

So it was no surprise tickets sold out for Nov. 11 concert, which was held by Harrisburg University Presents. The YouTube sensation from Conyers, Georgia, performed at XL Live in Harrisburg.

When I was backstage with Swims, CVBZ and his drummer Tommy Oerding, I observed the chemistry, warmth and artistry. This feeling and talent spilled onto the stage.

The singer wore black slides and black socks. By the time he graced the stage, he performed in socks. His face tats and bald head gave off a Post Malone vibe. His beard reminded me of Action Bronson’s.

Like in his online videos, Swims didn’t disappoint. With his soulful and robust voice, he sang songs including “Devil in a Dress,” “Someone Who Loved You,” “Simple Things” and “You’re Still the One,” a hit song by Shania Twain. Swims dropped his Sleep is Exhausting EP a week before the concert.

There’s nothing better when the opening act is talented and not a filler for the concert. CVBZ was no exception. And at the end of his set, he handed out complimentary beers to some concertgoers.

Sure, fans packed XL Live like sardines — but it was worth it.
