Aigne on Yeezy’s new line

“As far as Kanye’s new line, I love the pieces individually mostly. I think where he falls short is with the styling and color scheme, even though it’s military inspired.” Tia Aigne comments on Kanye West’s new Yeezy Season 2 line at NYFW. Aigne is a fashion stylist based in Harrisburg. A-list celebs including Jaden Smith and Drake were in the house at West’s show. Ye, an art visionary, held his last-minute show on Sept. 16. West also debuted a new song featuring Ty Dollar $ign and Post Malone at his event.

Artist on the rise

Till the End of Summer album.

Villz
It’s Feb. 18. Villz calls me a few minutes before our 1 p.m. phone interview. He’s professional, humble—an artist’s artist. His dreads are faded on the sides à la a rapper from the late ’80s. He told vigoronline.com that he named his next album Ego, and “By Myself” will be his next video. Continue reading ‘Artist on the rise’

Jan. 20.

That’s the release date for Joey Bada$$’ highly anticipated debut album. Joey planned on releasing his album, B4.Da.$$ (pronounced before da money), this year. Now it’s slated to drop on his 20th birthday. As a protégé of Q-Tip, Questlove and J. Dilla, one could call Joey a Soulquarian. In the beginning of the trailer for B4.Da.$$, the rapper and Pro Era member Powers Pleasant ride skateboards, a visual that mirrors the cover of Joey’s classic mixtape 1999. The cinematic album trailer and No Regrets short film show that music isn’t the only medium on Joey’s artistic palette.

The doobie brothers

How high?
For the grand finale, Redman climbed on top of a large speaker onstage. To create some suspense, he stood from the elevated area, waited about a minute and dived fearlessly into a sea of fans. Method Man stage dived and crowd surfed, too. With oomph and classic songs, hip-hop’s Cheech and Chong connected with the crowd. Continue reading ‘The doobie brothers’

When I met Mick Jenkins backstage, I told him he reminds me of Jay Electronica. With voices as deep as James Earl Jones’, both rappers write thought-provoking lyrics against a backdrop of melodic beats. Continue reading ‘A thirst for truth’
