Eight years ago, local singer/songwriter Alonda Rich opened up for celebrity singer Jaguar Wright in Grantville. Chad Scott, proprietor of the District Restaurant & Lounge, promoted the Jaguar concert back then. On Nov. 22, Scott booked Rich at the Harrisburg-based District—but she was the main act this time.
The event, called Acoustic Soul, is the first of the local artist showcase series. During Acoustic Soul, Rich sang cover songs by Usher, Donell Jones, Lauryn Hill, Jhené Aiko and Bryson Tiller. She also performed her originals: “Kryptonite,” “Love Is the Answer,” “Loyal Heart,” “Problem” and “Too Far Gone.” Like on her debut album So Provocative, Rich evoked emotion with her pillowy soft voice.
Acoustic Soul features singer Keya Wilson next. Catch Wilson at the District at 6 p.m. on Dec. 13.
